Located right on top of the famous Rift Valley Escarpment. This is the only place on the whole escarpment where you can see the Rift Valley which stretches across East Africa AND Lake Manyara AND the famous mountains Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru (on a clear day) And banana plantations and some local villages…
Established in 1960, Lake Manyara National Park was one of Tanzania’s earliest protected areas. It was praised by conservationist Iain Douglas-Hamilton as one of the most beautiful places in Africa. The park derives its name from the “emanyara,” a spiky plant used by the Maasai to build protective hedges around their homes.
The lake itself is alkaline and seasonal, expanding and contracting depending on rainfall. During wet seasons, it becomes a haven for flamingos and waterbirds. During dry spells, the exposed mudflats attract grazers and predators alike, offering spectacular game-viewing.
Lake Manyara has a strong cultural connection with nearby communities, especially the agricultural and market town of Mto wa Mbu. Leen Adventures incorporates local experiences into your safari, from guided village walks to tasting banana beer.
The park is also home to a unique groundwater forest, nourished by underground springs. This lush, evergreen habitat provides cover for blue monkeys, bushbuck, and a large population of olive baboons. These contrasting ecosystems make Lake Manyara a microcosm of Tanzanian biodiversity.

Climbed Meru and Kilimanjaro in October 2019, with LEEN Adventures A very exhilarating climb to the Summit of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. Everything was managed and organised by Antipas (LEEN Adventures), who did an excellent job in making sure everything went to plan. Two adventures, Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro, were both planned by LEEN Adventures. I didn’t have to worry about anything, including the airport pickup and the hotels for days when relaxing between trips. I take my hat off to Francis who waited for me late at night at arrivals in Kilimanjaro Airport, after the KLM flight was delayed. All through the stages before during and after the trips, I was kept up to date on the itinerary. The guide Mwinyi gave a thorough outline on the trip schedule, what to expect and what to wear. On both trips, I was looked after, the food was excellent, the porters were incredible carrying the kit. I had a great team (guide / chef / porters) helping me enjoy the experience and had total confidence in everyone’s ability. The adventure isn’t reaching the summit, it is getting back safely, which matters Both trips to Meru (3 days) and Kilimanjaro (6 days) were fantastic and made possible by my guide Mwinyi, who made the experience so enjoyable and Antipas at LEEN Adventures who did a brilliant job, organising everything. This is how good someone is, Antipas (LEEN Adventures) helped me, return to the airport the next day, to collect my kit bags which had been lost by KLM. I want to go back and do it again, it was that good, no it was amazing, really amazing
